Residency in General Pediatrics

Overview

North Shore-LIJ Cancer Institute is a highly advanced network of expert resources. Together, the physicians collaborate to discover the best solutions for treating cancer – and to formulate the best care plan for each patient. Through this multidisciplinary approach, they ensure each patient is surrounded by a specialized care team who will guide them through every need of the treatment journey. The institute’s goals include caring for each patient’s emotional and psychological needs, as well as physical ones, throughout treatment.

Program facts

Every day, North Shore-LIJ Cancer Institute is working to research newer, better and more effective ways to fight cancer. It is one of the busiest cancer centers in the metropolitan region for many very good reasons:

Elite physicians and researchers

Many of the clinicians have trained and practiced at some of the top hospitals and cancer programs in the region – and they choose to make North Shore-LIJ their home. The team diagnoses and/or treats more than 16,000 cancer patients each year, making the institute one of the largest cancer programs in the New York metropolitan area. This means that the team has experience treating a relatively large number of patients with some of the most complex and rarest forms of cancer.

The latest and greatest

To ensure that patients receive the very best care, North Shore-LIJ has invested in state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment technology, such as low-dose CT scanners, 3D mammography, da Vinci® robotic surgery system and Novalis® ExacTrac™ stereotactic radiosurgery system. The physicians also have access to the latest drugs.

Truly personalized care

The physicians know their patients by name. No one is a number. The team members treat patients like family. That’s one reason people who can choose treatment anywhere in the world keep choosing the Cancer Institute. Each individualized treatment plan takes into consideration much more than just a diagnosis – it includes family history, lifestyle, general health, and much more. The physicians make sure that each and every patient receives the unrelenting compassion and personalized care they deserve.
